I must confess I wasn't sure to finish and upload this deviation
fmralchemist.deviantart.com/ar… after witnessing the whole internet outrage at Milo Manara´s Spiderwoman cover. It seems that being offended and exaggerating is the new black....
Would you believe me if I tell you I'm not a misogynistic or sexist person on real life, and that I treat my lady friends with tons of respect? But of course you won't, this is the internet and everything you show/draw is instantly what you are..... or so people seems to claim (I don't agree with the internet bible that says that), so if you draw semi naked or voluptous girls, then you automatically are a closeted rapist! (insert sarcasm sign).
I've been criticized in the past for drawing female figures with little clothing, claiming it's not tactically accurate for unexistant characters to have so many naked spots while figthing...... but was I criticized when I did the same with chest naked males before?
fmralchemist.deviantart.com/ar… fmralchemist.deviantart.com/ar… No, I wasn't. Was I criticized of objetifying males, back in the old days when I was influenced by Kazuma Kaneko and drew androgynous characters ?
fmralchemist.deviantart.com/ar… I wasn't either. In fact, I think I got a lot of watchers from that time. Does that make everyone, me included, a pervert or a deviant (the real sense of the word, not this site title) ? No. Should I go now and outrage about animes that objetify men or agains pseudo or full yaoi? Like "Free" for example? Because it makes me feel oppresed ? Should I start a sign up campaign to have Free banned from TV? No, I don't care about Free, it's not even my cup of tea, if you like it, good for you, have fun.
YES! I adore the beauty of the female anatomy, yesss I also happen to like women! That doesn't make me an instant wifebeater rapist womanhater......also nudity or seminudity is not porn and I won't stop drawing more and more anatomy (wheter it's male or female) into my characters the more I keep on practicing. If this whole ordeal offends you, you are always welcome to stop watching me either here, tumblr, behance or in facebook, but I don't see the point of hiding this whole body issues as if people's bodys now are now suddenly something sacred and biblical you must not name or show because it will corrupt their holy grace... and if you idealize them using certain comic canons then it's something evil and out of reality, or that it isolates people because they can never look like that.... what???? I grew up being a fat 90s kid watching like...... well every single 90's cartoon adonis hero, was I traumatized or isolated by the fact I never got to have a six pack like them? Fuck no, and you shouldn't either. Let them all exist in all their metrosexual glory, let them be.
Some people will come claiming "but this is all comics/manga/game industy cash in using the woman's highly sexualized image", first of all, have you seen any male comics/games characters? They're all sexualized as fuck, just try to imagine for a second Hulk's Schwang for a second okay? Or the fact we male audience also had THIS cover and we didn't sign up in arms to ban it:
0.media.dorkly.cvcdn.com/55/55… Second, there's also someone else playing all of you, taking the opportunity of cashing in from this whole spread of "comics/games vs women" recent movement. While yes, sexism and discrimination DO exist, I don't think in reality is as exaggerated as some people claim it to be, or that it centers around comics, manga and games, or that suddenly comic book readers and gamers hate women! There are more important things to figth for, like equality in jobs and salary, I do believe it's right to fight for the equality in the serious serious problems of sex discrimination and violence but an insignificant comic book cover or videogame characters?? Is that even a problem or an oppression? There are like 100 oversexualized male characters as well and I don't see the point to rise in arms against that. Aren't there more important things in life? Someone out there is playing on you and making cash on sensationalism and people's fears from things that in reality are not the way reporters and column writers claim them to be.
And you know what, Kill la Kill is a good show that goes beyond butts and boobies, but if you're too prejudiced to watch it, just stick to the abysmal horror of the butts and boobies, and never ever watch it because you can't simply see beyond that (also you couldn't see technically the guys are more naked than the girls, but who cares).
I feel quite stupid writing all this, but I needed to leave it out of my chest because of some past feedback I had, and current events in the comic book industry, particulary the whole Manara outrage was terrifying in my opinion, I think the lowest point of it was some people who've been drawing for 2 to 3 years suddenly making tutorials to "TEACH" Milo Manara, a veteran of 40 years of drawing, yes guys he makes tiny noses on women, but you know who else does that? like 999.99% manga artists you all adore and read like the bible. That whole tutorial thing was pompous as fuck.
Have a nice day.
